Achillea millefoleium, also known as Yarrow, Milfoil, Lace plant, Hundred-leaved grass, Devils Nettle, Warriors Plant, and Bloodwort, is a member of the Asteraceae family native to Eurasia and North America. Yarrow has a long history of being used by soldiers during war times and derives its name from the famous Greek mythology hero Achilles. Carried into battle by ancient Greeks, and Romans, as well as Indigenous tribes, Yarrow was used in treating soldiers up until the American civil war.

Yarrow is a perennial deciduous herb native to Eurasia and North America that thrives in growing zones 3-9. Yarrow attracts many different pollinators, especially butterflies! Supporting pollinators helps develop healthy ecosystems. Ideal temperatures for germination are between 70°-80°F, expect seedlings to emerge 7-10 days after planting. Plant in full sun and well-draining soil 1-2 feet apart. Yarrow reaches maturity at 130 days and remains hardy to 0°F.
